They say, “move back home?!…Kids today are so lazy and irresponsible! Your mother and I started out with nothing!…” to which the kid responds, “trust me, I would’ve LOVED starting out with nothing!…”]

I finished college a semester early about a year and a half ago, and I still don’t have any full-time work in my desired field.

The thing I find most humorous is how often “we started out with nothing,” means they started out in a middle class family where their education was mostly paid for or easily paid for with a couple of scholarships because the cost of college has quadrupled since our parents were in school. Don’t even get me started on the cost of housing…

I know upper middle class people my age who say this shit to me. I want to slap them and I will remind them of their lack of student loan debt, I don’t care how long I’ve known them. I’m usually not rude about checking people’s economic privilege, but that one will make me snap.

If I had a dollar for every time someone over 50 told me “I started out with nothing and look where I am today!” I could pay off my $40k of student loan debt.

Reblogged for utterly depressing truth.
